Hana Eid Interview

How do you decide your fits every day?

It depends on what I'm doing during the day. I barista, so if I'm working, I just try to wear stuff that isn't gonna get dirty. I try not to wear any light colors.

I have a lot of pants that are a little bit oversized, and I try not to wear those because they'll pick up dirt on the ground. But otherwise, I don't know. If I have time to get ready in the morning, I dig through everything I have and take my time and wear whatever I want. But it is always catered around what I'm doing during the day.

So you're not really a plan-your-outfits kind of person?

No. Sometimes I will, every once in a while, but usually no.

Shows or movies?

Movies.

What's your favorite city you've ever played in?

Seattle. I love playing in Seattle. It's always my favorite.

What about it?

I like the vibe, and the crowd is always good. I love Seattle, the city itself. I love driving to Seattle because it's always really pretty. Every tour I've been on where Seattle is a stop, it's always the best city.

Who's an unexpected artist you've been listening to lately?

This artist Quiet Light just put out a really awesome pop album that I really, really, really have been loving. It's so interesting and so cool.

There are a lot of pop albums that I like, but they're only for certain occasions. I like to listen to pop music if I'm going out or hanging out with my girlfriends. I'm not listening to pop music when I'm driving around or doing things throughout the day. But this Quiet Light record I feel like I could listen to any time of day. I've been listening to it a bunch, and it's just so good.

How do you name your songs?

It depends– sometimes it'll be whatever I call the voice memo. Most of the time it's just whatever I call the voice memo. Whatever the first thing is that I call the idea. I'll rarely have a name for a song that's super abstract. Sometimes it’s whatever I'm calling it when I'm telling friends about it in the preliminary stage; that usually ends up sticking.

Based on the success of your singles, did you feel any pressure releasing your first full project?

Probably somewhere in the middle. I think an EP might have performed better. 12 songs is a lot for people to sit through, but I also really believe in the sanctity of a body of work and doing full lengths, and I've always wanted to do full lengths. I'm probably just gonna keep putting out albums from now on. So I guess I don't really care.

Obviously, I want my albums to do well. But I don't really care that much because putting together a long-form body of work is significant, and people are starting to see the merit in that again. I think people are more interested in being more present and listening to music more intentionally. Gen Z has been reverting back to physical media and full-lengths and that sort of thing. I don't really feel pressure to do anything other than from myself.
