Ever since he started dropping ethereal, autotune-heavy tracks on Soundcloud, Swoopy has been a name to look out for. He has spent the last few years making music as a member of the group Boys Nights Out. Now he is finally dropping the latest installation in his Bag Life series.

I asked him a few questions about Bag Life, his life, and his collective over Facetime a few weeks ago while he was in Tokyo.

How was growing up in Sweden?

I grew up in north Sweden, in a village called Hammerdal. It’s a calm place. I know many funny people from there. But it doesn't really have much opportunities for what I do.

Where do you shop for clothes?

Honestly, all my clothes are just cheap. Friends give them to me or I just find them on the street. I don't have any one place or a favorite brand. That's something I used to prioritize more when I was younger I think.

It seems like you’re always posting from a different country. How do you end up in so many different places?

From this modeling thing, they send me around. God is good. I like it cus I get to travel around and play shows in places I wouldn't normally be at, but yeah.

Where does the name Swoopy come from?

Swoopy comes from an old haircut that was “swoopy bangs.” The old Justin Bieber haircut. So I really like this name.

What made you start making music?

Man, me and Buffalo bang started making music when we were 14. It was just because we were bored type stuff.

How was BNO started? How did you join?

We had this group, before, called SSB. It was Buffalo Bang, me, and D1v. And then we were playing a lot of video games with these other guys from America and Spira me. So we started calling that “boys nights out.” When we were having a boys night out, we were playing games. And then that just unraveled into a collective.

What does Bag Life mean?

Bag, it's money, of course. And I think Bag Life has always been about the desire to be financially stable. I think that's something everyone can relate to. Like everything you need will cost money and in that way it can rule over our mood and stuff. Nothing is worse than being home broke on a Thursday night. While on Saturday you’re stoned eating chocolate chips on a boat or something having way more fun. That stuff costs money man.

I think Baglife has been about trying to seek that joy in other things. Free stuff like this moment maybe or nature. I also recognize that the more I remove that desire for money the more of it flows in. I don't know the science on that but its crazy.

What were your inspirations for this new tape?

I've been working on this for two, three years now. It's more just a collection of tracks ive made during this time. It’s been a lot of different versions over the years but I think it finally reached its point of completion.

Where did you record the songs?

So I didn't have like one studio I’d go to. It’s recorded at a bunch of different friends’ houses.
I like how global it is, the songs were recorded in Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Sweden London also Tokyo. I’ve enjoyed seeing many different ways of making music, it's been inspiring to say the least.
