What's your favorite part about being Wishy?
Getting to tour. I always wanted to tour since I was pretty young. I knew that's what I always wanted to do, and I'm glad that Wishy has presented us the opportunities to be able to.
Touring is probably the coolest part of being in a band. Recording is also a really cool part of being in a band. Being in the studio, working with the same person a lot, building a repertoire of music, building a method and a style.
That's been really cool. I like how Wishy has become the band I've always wanted to be in.
Do you guys usually pre-write your songs, or do they just come out when you're recording?
For the most part pre-written.
Sometimes I'll text Kevin a little demo of, "This could be cool." And then much later on, we expand upon it, throwing ideas back and forth.
There are some times where we'll have a song that's not totally finished, and we'll be in the studio and sort of wrapping up last-minute lyrics.
But for the most part, I would say everything is written beforehand.
Who usually gets to choose what you guys listen to?
Me, because I'm demanding.

What do you usually play?
At the beginning of a tour, we'll blast music a lot, going through everything I've ever listened to. Then, I get so sick of music and we’ll only listen to podcasts.
What's one thing you wish your fans knew?
That we don't have a lot of money.
We've gotten questioned for sitting at our merch table on this tour. People being like, "Wow, you guys run your own merch table? Like, that's crazy." I'm just like, "Yeah, we can't afford a merch person right now, but getting there.
It'd be cool if the United States had a better arts grant budget, but unfortunately, we don't live in that perfect socialist world. I did just apply for a grant for the band, but I don't know when we're gonna hear about that.
How do you know when a song is done?
Usually when it has melody, lyrics and all the instruments.
Kevin takes forever during the mixing. Him and Drew usually spend a while on the mixing element of it after everything's recorded. I'm pretty hands-off with that stuff. I'm just like, "All right, that sounds fine." Kevin's a little more picky.
That's a good combination, if you ask me, 'cause you don't want two people being super picky, and then you're butting heads.
I don't know when a song is done. I don't think that I can answer that question. It literally depends on the song, because sometimes it'll be done several hours ago, and then I'll fuck it up, and then I have to work on it more because I didn't recognize when it was done.
It is kind of like the age-old question after doing something art-related is, like, how do I know when to stop? And you really don't.
Sometimes I'm like, "I don't know, maybe this is getting to be too long," and then trim away some fat, and there you go. There's usually some good in there.
